Flying to San Diego for another pitch.... (and winning!)...
Yesterday I flew down to San Diego with prototype in hand to pitch SeePort in front of the Wireless industry folks at CTIA - a large convention for the wireless industry held in the even larger San Diego Convention Center.
At the airport, the prototype didn't make it through the scanning machine and it and I were ushered off to the side so that it could be personally inspected by a TSA agent. After she finished her bomb sniffing routine she asked me what it was... this led to a rather long conversation about her mother, and a kickstarter pledge!
We had been invited to a competitive 'pitch' sponsored by Mobitech called the 'Game Changer Event'. For those of you who don't know this nerve wracking ritual - it entails standing up on a stage in front of an audience and presenting your idea in a limited amount of time. After all companies (five in this case chosen from a hundred or so from all over the country) have presented, then the audience and judges vote - welI, I'm happy to say SeePort won the event! Winning gets us free entry and booth and lots of stuff for the next event in New Orleans - hope it will help us spread the word...
Have to say that it does feel good to have folks come up afterwards and tell personal stories of how they really want us to succeed so that they could keep their aging mother, or traveling father, or kids off at college connected with the family.
